While the Chicago Bears wallow in their own crapulence, the Chicago Cubs are headed back to the playoffs. Yes, I understand that some of you might not think of this as an accomplishment because MLB’s expanded postseason format waters down the field. HOWEVER, the Cubs have not been good enough for long enough for fans to be dismissive about making the playoffs or take it for granted. So I’m going to enjoy this for whatever it is and for however long it lasts. It’ll give me something to do while taking breaks from rage typing about Chicago’s football team.
If you went into the season hoping the Bears could play like the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that is perennially in the hunt for championships, seeing the two teams start 0-2 in 2025 isn’t what you had in mind. With that being said, I found what Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said about how he is approaching the 0-2 start (via The Athletic) worth sharing:“In my eyes, it’s like, what an opportunity. What an opportunity to prove who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs, coming back from 0-2 and trying to build up to win a big football game on ‘Sunday Night Football’ and try to get our season going in the right direction.”

— Jeff Agrest # (@JeffAgrest) September 17, 2025 We’re all familiar with the Bears’ defensive woes. But the Cowboys just allowed the Giants to rack up 506 yards of total offense and 37 points in Week 2. Maybe the Week 3 showdown at Soldier Field will look more like a basketball score than a football score. I wouldn’t hate that (so long as Chicago’s football team emerged with a dub). ESPN’s Football Power Index calculates the Bears’ playoff odds to be 6.3 percent. It’s not zero, folks! So we’ll continue to play out this season. Bill Barnwell, who ranks the Bears third among the NFL’s 10 winless teams to this point, sums up Chicago’s situation in one simple sentence that puts everything in perspective: “This is a work in progress, and it’s closer to the beginning of that process than the end.” Kevin Fishbain (The Athletic) writes about how the Bears can get more out of their tight ends. For what it’s worth, the Bears lead the league in total plays run with two tight ends on the field. They also have the fourth-highest percentage of plays in 12 personnel, which is one RB, two TE, two WR. Given those numbers, this tandem needs to be higher than 23rd in targets. Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images The Bears have three cornerbacks on the injury report, so it is all hands on deck in the secondary at Halas Hall. One player who needs to kick it up a notch is Tyrique Stevenson. The cornerback tells the Sun-Times that what we’ve seen in the first two weeks is “definitely not who I am, or my standards, or this team’s standards.” We’ve seen Stevenson play better. And while there are no breaks in the schedule, I see the challenges ahead as an opportunity for Stevenson to play his best against some of the league’s best. I love a good bounce back story, so I’m rooting for Stevenson to figure it out. A not-so-fun fact about the Bears’ Week 2 loss from Marquee’s Nicholas Moreano: “According to Detroit Lions PR, the Lions produced a game with 500-plus total net yards, five passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns for the first time in team history. That’s obviously not a side of history the Bears want associated with their team. But the Week 2 game film is out there for not only the Bears to review but for every team remaining on Chicago’s schedule.” Yikes on bikes:The #Bears would like a word. They've used 42 starting quarterbacks (not counting 2 replacement players in 1987) since appearing in Super Bowl XX on Jan. 26, 1986. t.co/NLoHbk6oNg
— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) September 17, 2025 While we continue to play the waiting game with the Bears’ stadium, the Washington Commanders’ $3.8 billion stadium project has been approved. The Commanders are one step closer to playing in Washington D.C. again. (CBS Sports) This piece from The Athletic has been bookmarked for later reading based on the headline, which reads “Travis Hunte made coaches rethink how to use players. Will it spark a football revolution?”MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION BEARS: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
