#1 Japan’s Ageha Tanigawa Retires
Japanese Olympian Ageha Tanigawa has announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 22.
Tanigawa represented her nation at the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2024 Olympic Games. In the former, she placed 12th in the 400m IM and in the latter edition, she finished 13th overall in the same event.
In her recent social media post, Tanigawa said:
“4 days of realizing that I am loved by so many people. I haven’t been able to recognize my accomplishments enough to be proud of, but I’ve talked to a lot of people and I like myself a little more. There have been times when I don’t know the right answer, Swimming made me who I am today, and someone told me a lot of things. There are people who convinced me that the road I’ve been on was wrong. I couldn’t stop crying on the last day.
Starting next year, I will embark on a new path as a social worker, but I want to grow older with the help of people around me
Swimming I loved! Thank you for your service! ”
She completes her career as Japan’s 17th-best-ever performer in the women’s 1500m free (16:30.84)and the 5th-best-ever 400m IM performer (4:35.60).

Litherland, 30, is one of the three Litherland triplets who all swam collegiately at the University of Georgia. Triple citizens of the US, Japan, and New Zealand, Jay made the biggest splash internationally, winning a silver medal in the 400 IM at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2019 World Championships. He was also a Pan American Games Champion in 2023 and World University Games Champion in 2015 in the same event.
He finished 3rd in the event at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, missing the team behind Carson Foster and Chase Kalisz. We reported in April of this year that he was moving to Japan to pursue a music career.
#3 2025 Junior Pan American Games Economic Impact
According to a report in The Asuncion Times, the 2025 Junior Pan American Games, held from August 9th through August 23rd in Paraguay, generated an economic boost exceeding $23 million USD to the nation’s tourism industry.
The figure points to the influx of more than 10,000 visitors from abroad directly linked to the Games, including athletes, coaches, officials, media representatives, technical staff, volunteers, and accompanying parties. This figure is based on data from the Yearbook of the Meetings Tourism Observatory, and the National Directorate of Migration. (The Asuncion Times)
Additionally, hotel occupancy soared above 80% across Asunción and the Greater Asunción area throughout the elite event.
#4 Kenya Declared Non-Compliant by WADA
On September 12th, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) deemed the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) as non-compliant with WADA‘s rules based on an audit from May 2024.
WADA announced the nation will face consequences in October unless certain conditions are met and ADAK has 21 days from receiving formal notice to dispute WADA‘s allegation of non-compliance.
If sanctioned next month, possible consequences include losing funding and participation in WADA programs while Kenyan representatives would be barred from holding WADA board or committee positions.
Additionally, Kenya would be unable to host regional or world championships. The latter holds special significance as Kenya reportedly intends to bid to host either the 2029 or 2031 World Athletics Championships after failing in an attempt to host this year’s edition. (BBC)
#5 Arrest Warrant Issued for Russian Whistleblower
The Russian Interior Ministry has reissued an arrest warrant for whistleblower Grigory Rodchenkov, the former head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory.
According to Inside the Games, “Grigory Mikhailovich Rodchenkov is wanted under a Criminal Code article with Russian law enforcement officials telling state-run media outlet TASS that the reissued warrant could be connected to a new criminal case, though no specific charges from such a case have been independently confirmed. (Inside the Games)
Rodchenkov left Russia in January 2016 and became an informant for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), giving testimony of a state-run doping program during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
His revelations were central to the 2016 McLaren Report, which concluded that Russia operated a state-sponsored doping programme across numerous sports.
In a February 2018 BBC interview, Rodchenkov said, “If I was to return (to Russia) they may find some other way around ‑ put me in a psychiatric clinic, they have many plans. It will be torture. It’s no way to go back to Russia, it’s a big, big danger and threat to my life.”
