The Season 2 premiere of Brilliant Minds is just days away, and ahead of the new season, NBC is giving us a look at what is coming up.
Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) will have his hands full like never before as he deals with the return of his father, Dr. Noah Wolf (Mandy Patinkin), the never-ending stream of patients with the rarest of rare neurological disorders, and opposition from his own team. Much of that will come from the newest doctor on his team, Dr. Charlie Porter (Brian Altemus).
In the Brilliant Minds Season 2 first look, we get a peek at the tension that Dr. Porter brings this season as he declares the interns to be "the Dr. Wolf fan club." In the clip, Dr. Ericka Kinney (Ashleigh LaThrop) shot right back, "Dr. Wolf may be face blind, but he sees right through you."
Brilliant Minds is getting bigger for Season 2 in terms of the cast, with the addition of Brian Altemus, who plays the new neurology resident. John Clarence Stewart also joined the cast for Season 2 and will play Dr. Anthony Thorne, an ER physician.
Bellamy Young, who many will recognize from Scandal, is on board to play a recurring role for Season 2 as the clinical director of a long-term mental healthcare facility that will have some dealings with the team at Bronx General this season.
Some major guest stars will also appear in one-off episodes this season. As Teddy Sears said in the first look video, "The great thing about getting Season 2 is it attracts a really high caliber of guest stars. It's like a feast."
The roster of guest stars is impressive, too, with Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams appearing in the premiere episode, followed by Jane Krakowski,Laura Vandervoort, Molly Bernard, and Connor Tomlinson.
What to Expect From Season 2 of Brilliant Minds
Season 2 kicks off with an episode titled "The Phantom Hook." According to the episode description, "Dr. Wolf helps an MMA fighter with mysterious symptoms; Dr. Pierce considers a career outside of Bronx General."
This episode guest stars Porsha Williams, who will be a key player in Dr. Pierce's work outside the hospital. She plays an affluent Upper West Side housewife who seems to know all the gossip about what is going on in the medical community.
Episode 2 is titled "The Contestant" and features guest star Molly Bernard as Lauren, a woman going through a mental health crisis. In the Brilliant Minds Season 2first look, we get a peek at that episode when Lauren is seen in a hospital gown and Dr. Wolf says, "I think our patient is experiencing Truman Show Syndrome."
Truman Show Syndrome is a real neurological disorder where the patient believes they are on stage, being filmed for a reality show, unbeknownst to them. That should be a really interesting episode to watch, as reality TV has become so prevalent in our lineup of prime time TV and streaming.
"I do what I do how I do it because it's what I believe in, because my patients deserve it and that will never change," Dr. Wolf says in the sneak peek, proving why this show is so compelling and worth tuning in for.
