Leading up to not only the season finale but also the series finale, viewers saw Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) in Paris getting her hair cut before a big dinner party. Meanwhile, Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) had boarded a plane on his way to Paris.
The cliffhanger happened months after Belly called off her wedding with Conrad's brother, Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno) and then moved to Paris to find herself. Ultimately, she decided to extend her stay in France after she started dating a new guy, Benito (Fernando Cattori) and feeling like her journey there wasn't quite finished.
Prime VideoCompared to the author of The Summer I Turned Pretty book series written by Jenny Han, the whole France storyline was new territory. An epilogue in the book featured letters between Belly and Conrad while she was in France, however, no details about her time in the country were revealed.
In the Season 3 finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Conrad showed up in Paris to see Belly, telling her he had a conference in Brussels the next day. She led him on a tour of the city. Meanwhile, Jeremiah prepared for a dinner event as a chef, as Denise and Steven planned to move to California. Except, Steven didn't tell Taylor this, and she found out accidentally.
Belly invited Conrad to attend a birthday dinner with her friends, which he did. Ultimately, Conrad confessed his feelings and they hooked up. But the next morning, Belly said she couldn't be as sure as Conrad is about their love and sent him away to the conference.
However, she almost immediately realized she made a mistake and ran after him. She hopped into a taxi and pursued Conrad through Paris to the train station, finally finding him and boarding without a ticket.
"Conrad, I choose you of my own free will," she declared. "If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you in every one of them." He then stood up and kissed her.
The series ended with her and Conrad driving to Cousins and arriving at the beach house.
A voiceover of Belly concluded, "And just as it always had, the beach house held a million promises of summer and what just might be."
In the end, it's unclear whether Belly and Conrad are married. What is clear is they chose each other. -credits then showed photos of them spending Christmas together.
Additionally, the credits featured a letter from Han to viewers.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love you've shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years," she wrote. "Whether you've been with Belly since the very first book or joined us with the show, I'm so grateful you've made Belly's story part of your summers."
Han added, "We put our whole hearts into this show and we're so thankful to you for coming along with us on the ride. Maybe we'll meet again one summer in Cousins. Until then—all of my love always, Jenny."
How Did The Summer I Turned Pretty Book Series End?
In Han's third book, We'll Always Have Summer, Belly lived in Spain—not France—after calling off her wedding with Jeremiah. The story ended on her and Conrad's wedding day as they were heading into the reception after saying "I do."
After that, Han featured letters that Conrad sent to Belly while she studied abroad in Spain.
