Team India opener Smriti Mandhana scored a century in the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on September 17. Mandhana scored her 12th ODI hundred and recorded the second-fastest century by an Indian woman.
Mandhana has been in excellent batting form ahead of the Women's World Cup, set to be played in India and Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter reached her fifty off just 45 balls after India were sent in to bat. She reached the milestone with a six over mid-wicket off leg-spinner Georgia Wareham in the 16th over.
Smriti Mandhana has added another record to her name by smashing a century off just 77 deliveries against Australia. She also became the fastest woman to reach three figures against the Aussies. Mandhana surpassed Nat Sciver Brunt’s record, who scored a century off 79 balls in the 2022 World Cup.
The left-handed batter registered the second-quickest century ever scored by an Indian woman in ODIs. Notably, the fastest century also belongs to Mandhana, who struck a 70-ball hundred against Ireland in Rajkot earlier this year.
She completed her milestone by driving Tahlia McGrath to the boundary in the 29th over to bring up her hundred. The southpaw raised her arms in celebration and received plenty of applause from the crowd.
