Foo Fighters New Drummer Ilan Rubin Speaks Out After Incredible First Show

Ilan Rubin just played his first show with the Foo Fighters on Saturday, September 13, in San Luis Obispo, California. It was a great way to start such a huge gig, considering the all-ages crowd for the show numbered only 900 people.

After the show, Rubin shared his thoughts on Instagram. Ahead of their second show, which was slightly larger and had a capacity of 1,000 to 1,100 in Santa Ana, he shared four black-and-white photos from onstage and behind the scenes from the San Luis Obispo show.

In his caption, Rubin said, "Last night with @foofighters could not have been a better time. After keeping my head down for a couple wild months and throwing myself into the material, that first show was such an incredible release of energy. I’ve been taken aback by all the positivity and support, and I just wanted to say thanks! Excited for all the volume and sweat that lies ahead. (First three photos by @andiktaylor )."

Ilan Rubin Honored As Drummer For Nine Inch Nails

Ilan Rubin comes to Foo Fighters from Nine Inch Nails, where he served as their drummer since 2009. In 2020, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with the band, making him the youngest living inductee ever.

Rubin replaced Josh Freese as drummer for Nine Inch Nails in 2009 after Freese quit the band when the Lights In The Sky Tour ended, as his wife was expecting their third child.

After Rubin joined Foo Fighters, it was announced that Freese would be re-joining NIN in what could be considered a drummer swap. In a now-deleted Instagram post (via Billboard), Freese said that he's "incredibly excited" to be returning to his old band.
