Week 3 Preview: Bills welcome Dolphins in AFC East clash

ORHARD PARK, NY. (WHEC) – The Buffalo Bills host their AFC East rivals, the Miami Dolphins, on Thursday Night Football as Buffalo looks to improve to 3-0.

In week two, the Bills followed up their season-opening thriller against the Ravens with a subdued blowout, 30-10, of the New York Jets. Buffalo carries their 2-0 record back home to take on a struggling 0-2 Dolphins squad.

The Dolphins look to be spiraling at the moment, losers of two-straight to start the season. Miami opened the year on the wrong side of a blowout in Indianapolis before surrendering their fourth-quarter lead against the New England Patriots in week two.

Prior to the season and prior to the losses, star wide receiver Tyreek suggested he wanted out of Miami. Well, he’s still there and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said at the beginning of September that the two are now “good”. After a four-catch, 40-yard performance in week one, Tagovailoa targeted Hill seven times to the tune of 109 yards. After Sunday’s loss, the Dolphins’ quarterback was asked about pushing the ball downfield more to Hill and fellow wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, here’s what he had to say:

“Well, I think having some talks with ‘Reek’ (Tyreek Hill) and whatnot, that if I do, just don’t think that I’m going to throw it 80 yards, as you’re running, just do your best to track it because you could potentially stop. That’s what ended up happening on that play for ‘Reek.’ And then him and Waddle with those deeper outbreaking routes, just trying to help them get open while maneuvering the corner in the flat.”

So as tough as things have been in Miami, both on and off the field, there seems to be a concerted effort to get the ball to their speedy wideouts on the boundaries.

For the Bills, stopping that comes down to the cornerback room. Now, Christian Benford is as steady as they come as Buffalo’s main starting cornerback, but it’s that second spot that should be watched. In week one against the Ravens, sixth-round cornerback Dorian Strong filled in before veteran Tre’Davious White returned to the field in week two.

If White is fully healthy, he’ll get the start, but Strong played admirably against the Ravens and his 21 snaps against the Jets could sneak up on Thursday. Miami’s path to victory is narrow–but–it may be through targeting a shaky second cornerback spot.
