If the Chicago Bulls have taught us anything, it’s that things can always get worse. Let’s hope the Bears don’t teach us a similar lesson this afternoon!
Speaking of which, it’s a beautiful day to win some money and support BN in the process. Bleacher Nation Fantasy is offering up a Bijan Robinson bonus pick for Sunday Night Football. Select him to rush for more than 0.5 yards and add at least one more successful pick (I love Lamar Jackson to have more than 264.5 pass + rush yards, i.e.), and you’ve got a winner.

People tend to forget that two things can be true. The Chicago Bulls’ front office has done a bad job, and I think we would all agree with that. They refused to make meaningful roster changes for years and thus accepted mediocrity in the process. Likewise, once they finally did decide to shake things up, they still chose to ignore lottery odds and future draft capital. Bad! Still, we recognize all of that while also admitting that they did a pretty solid job with the Josh Giddey contract. Just like they did with the Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu deals a few years back, and this summer’s re-signing of Tre Jones. To be sure, nobody is saying that these good contracts justify an extension or should completely change your overall feelings about this front office. They shouldn’t. However, the overwhelming stench of this organization can cloud how we view everything they do. I still think we have to look at certain transactions independently of one another. And, hey, there is always room for improvement. Are my hopes high that this braintrust figures things out? Not at all, but they are at least in a better position to do so than in the past few years. By creating the financial flexibility they currently have and embracing youth, they have a chance to put the franchise back on the right track. Don’t screw it up! Am I agreeing with Joe Cowley!? The Chicago Sun-Times beat reporter shared his thoughts on the Josh Giddey contract, and he offered some rare positivity …“What should allow the Bulls to sleep very well at night? LaMelo Ball ($40 million) and Trae Young ($48 million) each breaking the bank for the 2026-27 season with very little to show the last few years. Giddey has his critics, but no one would call him an unserious basketball player. Ball and Young? They are highlights with very little winning substance. That’s why Karnisovas can feel good about his latest deal,” Cowley wrote.
In case you missed it, we talked some more about the domino effect of Giddey’s signing for the Bulls in yesterday’s notes. © David Banks-Imagn Images So … is this season the end of the road for Julian Phillips and Dalen Terry? It’s really hard to see a path toward substantial playing time for either party. Whether it be Kevin Huerter, Isaac Okoro, Tre Jones, or even rookie Noa Essengue, it’s easy to envision a handful of players on this roster stealing their minutes in the rotation. While it’s possible that their familiarity with Billy Donovan and other players on this roster could work to their advantage, Donovan isn’t really the type to play favorites. The head coach prefers players with a bankable skillset, which most of those guys named above offer. Huerter is a knockdown shooter. Okoro is an above-average defender. Jones is a savvy distributor. Essengue has an elite frame. As for Terry and Phillips, both have struggled to show exactly what hole they can fill consistently. With that said, if the Bulls were truly committed to this youth movement and developing talent, finding playing time for both would be a priority. Terry at least demonstrated flashes on the defensive end toward the end of last season, while Phillips has a little Derrick Jones Jr. to his game. It’s not like either should be considered a lost cause, but it is hard to see a road toward either making a real impact this season or beyond. Germany will face off against Turkey for the championship crown this afternoon. The game will pit Franz Wagner and Dennis Schroder against Alperen Sengun. Not too shabby!
