Former Houston Swim coach Nathan Bernier was indicted for multiple felonies including sexual exploitation of a minor and distribution of child pornography on top of several other charges, including sexually assaulting a high school student in the Houston area.
Bernier was originally arrested in January 2024 after being accused of online solicitation of a minor. He allegedly sent inappropriate messages and made plans to meet with an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl in Odessa on anonymous chat app AntiLand, and in April of last year, he was permanently banned by USA Swimming from coaching because of these charges.
Last month, he was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly coercing a minor to produce sexually explicit material between August 2022 and January 2023. He also faces additional charges against him, including sexual assault that was filed by prosecutors in Harris County.
In September 2024, Bernier reportedly asked a friend to factory reset his iPad. While attempting, his friend saw “illegal items” on the tablet and reported them to agents at the Texas Department of Public Safety.
During the search, the DPS found saved Snapchat messages with a 16-year-old girl who attended Klein High School in suburban Houston. In March, she told investigators that she met Bernier through the same app he was caught messaging the undercover agent on AntiLand. They reportedly met at a motel near the high school where Bernier allegedly gave her alcohol and assaulted her.
He was charged with online solicitation of a minor and sexual assault of a child, according to court records obtained by the Houston Chronicle. He has also reportedly been charged with sexual assault of a child in Williamson County, near Austin.
