Claudia Koesler, a counselor at Greeley Central High School, has been named the Colorado High School Counselor of the Year by the Colorado School Counselor Association.
Also a Greeley Central graduate, Koesler and the high school staff were surprised Monday morning with the honor from Anna Gisetti, who is the chair of the board of directors for the Colorado School Counselor Association.
The Colorado School Counselor Association is the state division of the American School Counselor Association, and it represents more than 1,600 counselors across Colorado. Winners of the CSCA School Counselor of the Year Award are also nominated for the national American School Counselor Association (ASCA) School Counselor of the Year Award.
“I feel like I was born to do this, to help inspire our kids in Greeley,” Koesler said in a news release from Greeley-Evans School District 6.
Koesler has worked in Greeley-Evans School District 6 for the last nine years.
In Koesler’s nomination, colleagues praised Koesler as a passionate advocate for the counseling profession, and someone who works tirelessly to elevate the role while ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed, according to the news release.
“We are so proud of Claudia and the work she does every day to ensure students reach their goals, graduate on time and have the support they need to be successful,” said Deirdre Pilch, District 6 Superintendent. “All District 6 counselors play an essential role in the wellbeing and success of our students.”
