CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Polls officially closed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Primary Election Day in Charlotte. Voters across the Queen City cast their ballots to decide who will lead the city as mayor, help shape the City Council, and represent their neighborhoods.

Who Won?
Mayor’s Race
Mayor Vi Lyles has won with more than 70 percent of the vote, despite growing criticism over her leadership following the fatal stabbing on Charlotte's light rail on August 22. Many lawmakers, including Rep. Ralph Norman, have called for Lyles to resign.
She's seeking a fifth term and now faces Republicans Terrie Donovan and Libertarian Rob Yates in the November general election.
City Council At-Large
Several Democratic candidates were hoping to secure one of four spots on the November ballot. In the end, Dimple Ajmera, LaWana Mayfield, James (Smuggie) Mitchell, Jr. and Victoria Watlington claimed the spots.
Republicans Edwin Peacock and Misun Kim are already locked in for the general.
District Races
Each district has its own flavor, and some of Tuesday night's winners will automatically take office due to no opposition in November:
District 1 (Uptown, NoDa, Plaza Midwood): Dante Anderson District 3 (West Charlotte, Airport area, Steele Creek): Joi Mayo will face Republican James Bowers in the general election. District 4 (Northeast Charlotte, UNC Charlotte): Renee Johnson District 5 (East Charlotte): It was a close race, but ultimately, Juan Diego Mazuera Arias edged out a win by less than 40 votes.
