Texas A&M got a scare Saturday when starting quarterback Marcel Reed left the game against Utah State after taking a hit on a scramble in the third quarter.
Reed briefly went to the medical tent and later walked to the locker room, but Aggies head coach Mike Elko is confident the sophomore will be ready for Week 3 when they take on Notre Dame.
“We’ll be fine injury-wise… Marcel will be fine,” Elko said Monday.
Reed, who threw three touchdown passes and ran for another before leaving the game, is off to a tremendous start in the 2025 campaign — with 41 completions for 509 yards and eight total touchdowns through two appearances. He’s on a legitimate pace to shatter his 2024 passing yards total (1,864).
Texas A&M will continue to monitor Reed’s status throughout the practice week, though the early signs look good. If Reed is unable to go, backup Miles O’Neill would have to step in a high-pressure situation against the No. 8 Fighting Irish. The freshman QB completed a 72-yard touchdown pass to Mario Craver in the fourth quarter after Reed’s exit.
As encouraging as it was, the Aggies hope the news on Reed remains positive before Saturday’s contest.
