As the Chicago Bears prepare to open Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season with a Monday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field, team President/CEO Kevin Warren provided an update regarding the team’s new stadium.
In a letter to season-ticket holders that was shared by the team on Monday afternoon, Warren makes it officially official that the new Bears stadium will be a fixed-roof building in Arlington Heights. That isn’t earth-shattering news when you consider how the team has pivoted hard back toward the suburban town as the epicenter of its stadium project. However, the letter includes details that give us an indication of a timeline, as Warren mentions that the team wants to finalize stadium plans so that a bid to host a Super Bowl as soon as 2031 can be placed. This is the first time the new Bears stadium project has had a tangible target date of any kind.
Bears stadium watch still has a long way to go
You should take some time to read the letter. As a Bears fan, you might be interested to hear what the team president and CEO has to say about the matter.
For me, this part of the letter sticks out:
In evaluating options for a new stadium, the focus of the McCaskey family has been clear: build a world-class stadium that requires zero money from the State of Illinois for its construction. We are partnering with political, labor, business, and community leaders across Illinois to develop a plan for property tax certainty and a fair contribution toward essential infrastructure that will benefit the entire community. Arlington Heights is the only site within Cook County that meets that standard. It allows us to better serve our fan base and deliver a truly transformative and elevated gameday experience.
To say, in one sentence, that the team isn’t asking for money, only to point out in the second sentence that the team is requesting financial aid from the state by way of tax breaks, bends my mind.
Back in August, we wrote about President Kevin Warren stating that the team was ready to break ground on a new Bears stadium this year … but there were some major caveats in that statement. Most notably, the team was still seeking help from the state via tax cuts before breaking ground on a new stadium. Since then, Warren spent time on two Bears preseason broadcasts repeating what he said earlier in the month. At this point, I’d rather see actions than hear words. But at least this gives us a new datapoint to mark down.
