Syracuse defeated UConn 27-20 in overtime on Saturday, but Orange coach Fran Brown wasn’t thrilled with his team’s effort.
Brown made an immediate impact on Syracuse in 2024. In his first year, he went 10-3, leading the Orange to a win in the Holiday Bowl and a No. 21 ranking in the final College Football Playoff rankings. But they fell 45-26 at Tennessee in Week 1 of the 2025 season.
Week 2 looked to be trending toward a loss as well, as UConn held a 17-6 lead with 7 minutes to go in regulation. But Syracuse scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions to take a 20-17 lead before the Huskies hit a last-second field goal to force overtime. The Orange found the end zone on their lone possession of the extra frame and held UConn scoreless to slip away with a win in their home opener.
Brown, though, clearly didn’t like his team’s overall performance. As you can see below, he had them running sprints after the final whistle:

If the team running sprints after their overtime win is any indication, Syracuse’s film sessions from this game won’t be pleasant ones. The Orange should have a much easier time of it on Friday, though, as in-state FCS foe Colgate comes to town.
