After a pretty big letdown in week 1 against the Ohio State Buckeyes, the now No. 7-ranked Texas Longhorns will be looking to get things back on track in week 2 against the San Jose State Spartans.
Barring a truly catastrophic meltdown by the Longhorns, Texas and star quarterback Arch Manning should have little issue securing their first win of the 2025 campaign, but some are still skeptical about whether or not the Horns will ultimately be able to live up to their immense preseason hype.
One person who has become a bit of a skeptic when it comes to Texas is none other than CBS analyst Danny Kanell, who sounded off on what he believes the “best possible outcome” for head coach Steve Sarkisian‘s team.
“I don’t even think Texas is going to make the playoffs,” Kanell said. “I think they’re 9-3 when it’s all said and done… They’ll be on the outside looking (of the College Football Playoff).”
Crazy as it may seem to some, Kanell actually has a very solid point here regarding the Longhorns. They certainly have the talent needed to win it all, but their schedule is an absolute gauntlet.
As such, it’s not hard to imagine a scenario in which this Longhorns team ends up dropping a couple of more games, especially if Arch continues to struggle against the top-flight teams in the sport.
All of this will obviously be decided on the field at the end of the day, though, so it will be interesting to see whether or not Kanell’s prediction ends up looking right when things are all said and done.
