A 31-year-old man was shot and killed when a struggle ensued over a weapon during an argument at a South Loop business, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at around 9:28 p.m. Friday along South Michigan Avenue near East 13th Street. According to police, a 31-year-old man pulled out a handgun during an argument with a 32-year-old man, an employee of the business.

    A struggle then began over the weapon, and at some point, the gun went off, police said. The 31-year-old man was shot in the head and was treated by emergency personnel at the scene but was pronounced dead.

    A suspect was placed in custody, and police recovered a gun at the business.

    Charges were pending as of Saturday morning, and Area Three detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
