Buckle your seatbelts—Ice Road Truckers is hauling on back to TV.
Deadline reported that History Channel reality series, which ran from 2007 to 2017, will return this fall for a brand new season.
Ice Road Truckers follows a group of—you guessed it!—truckers who trek along icy, blizzard-prone paths and across frozen lakes in northern Canada to deliver supplies to isolated communities.
"The timing couldn’t be better to bring back a beloved series that once resonated with our viewers for over a decade," executive producer, executive vice president and head of programming for the History Channel Eli Lehrer told Deadline. "We're pleased to have this new season of Ice Road Truckers be a co-production with our Canadian partners at Corus Entertainment as this season ventures into a new era of storytelling for the series that infuses fresh energy and new challenges while honoring its rich legacy."

According to Deadline, Lisa Kelly and Todd Dewey will be among the veteran Ice Road Truckers returning for Season 12, and that several "rookies" will be in the ranks as well. The full cast hasn't yet been announced.
How real is the show Ice Road Truckers?
Lisa Kelly told Trucking Info that Ice Road Truckers was mostly real, though producers needed each episode to have a beginning, a middle and an end, so certain elements were worked into them for the sake of narrative structure.
"There [were] times when things would happen for real, and then other times there was the potential that it was going to happen, so we kind of helped it along a little bit to make it a story," she explained. "It wasn't a script, and we could say what we wanted—but you had to say certain things in order for the story to make sense."
Kelly said that in one particular episode, in which it was stated no truck had ever fallen through the ice on a specific lake that was six feet deep, producers drilled and prepared a hole for her to fall through later—but she actually didn't expect it to happen when it did, so her reaction was genuine in the moment,
She also noted, "I think I was more experienced than I came off on camera. And just 'cause I had blonde hair, they were kind of, 'Let's play the dumb blonde character.'"

"I didn't even get paid for the first two or three years that I was on the show," she told Trucking Info. "I was just got paid extra from my company for taking the time and doing it."

Why did Hugh sue Ice Road Truckers?
Yikes!
Ice Road Truckers fan favorite Hugh Rowland, affectionately nicknamed Polar Bear, was a fixture on the show until the middle of Season 8 and sued a producer of the show in February 2014. According to TMZ, Rowland accused producer Will Morrison of driving a pickup truck recklessly when Rowland was a passenger, leading to the vehicle veering off the road and crashing into trees. Rowland alleged that he suffered "severe and permanent injuries" that made him unable to work at his trucking company ... as well as unable to be intimate with his wife.
There haven't been any public updates on the suit since.
