This trick is really simple. All you do is remove the paper liner, cut each muffin in half (or quarters, if you have smaller eaters) and freeze the muffin pieces in gallon zip-top freezer bags. When you want one, take it out and microwave it for about 20 to 30 seconds or let it thaw at room temperature.
This is a game-changer because if you only want a piece of a muffin, you can. A lot of times, my spouse cuts his muffin in half because it’s too filling. My kids are also known for eating part of a muffin and leaving the rest. But then, that partial pastry is sitting there, just waiting to get stale.
Costco muffins typically last about 2 to 3 days at room temperature. But by freezing them, they’ll last roughly 2 to 4 months. As with anything that you freeze, the sooner you thaw the muffins, the fresher they'll be.

Helpful Tips for Using This Muffin Hack
To get a little more info, we reached out to Spilogon to learn more about this clever hack and why it’s been such a hit, both online and in her personal life.
"This hack was given to me by one of my close friends, Rio, and it’s been such a game changer," she tells Parade. "We love the Costco muffins [in our house] so this hack has been incredible because they’re such big servings and we can’t always eat them before they go bad."
Spilogon uses this trick a lot and has fine-tuned her method after some trial and error. If you're planning to freeze the muffins for a long time, she suggests wrapping the muffin pieces tightly in plastic wrap before placing them in the bag to prevent freezer burn. "I also sometimes wrap them in a wet paper towel too, to really keep in the moisture."
Spilogon also says she’s planning to use this trick on more than just muffins. "We also love the loaves from Costco, especially the lemon blueberry loaf, and I’m looking forward to trying this hack with those items next!" she adds.
