Channing Tatum Makes Rare Comment on Painful Jenna Dewan Split — And How They Are Now

Channing Tatum is sharing new insight into his marriage to Jenna Dewan that is now officially over.

Almost a year after their divorce was finalized, as E! reports, Tatum, 45 — who co-parents his 12-year-old daughter Everly Tatum with Dewan, 44 — has revealed where his relationship stands with with his Step Up co-star today.

“Jenna and I are good now, but it was a painful break to have that fall apart, especially being so young,” Tatum told Variety regarding their 2018 split, in a new interview published Tuesday, Sept. 2. “We tried to keep it together, tried for a year and a half.”

After stopping himself during the interview from going into further details, Tatum continued, "It’s in the past. But it’s really tough not to have your daughter half the time. I wish I could just have her all the time."

More recently, the Blink Twice actor was engaged to Zoë Kravitz for a year before the pair called it off last October.

Dewan also spoke out earlier this year about the impact of their public divorce, as E! noted.

“In 2024, especially, I learned a lot about myself, my resilience, and my voice,” she wrote in an essay for InStyle published on Jan. 22. “I learned to let go of over-accommodating in my relationships and to sit with uncomfortability. What it really means to trust.”

Amid her divorce from Tatum, The Rookie star has also spoken publicly about co-parenting.

“You shift and evolve and you adapt to how life is presenting itself to you,” Dewan told People in an interview published June 20, 2024. “That includes getting the new normal of a blended family.”

Going back to Tatum, the actor and producer spoke out in this week's Variety interview as part of his promotion for the new film Roofman, which hits theaters Oct. 10. Directed by Derek Cianfrance, it's based on the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a man who robbed several McDonald's locations before escaping prison and hiding out in a Toys ‘R’ Us.
