Beverly Hills, 90210 Star Reveals She Auditioned for Scream Despite Diss

Actress Tori Spelling is opening up about her time in the Screamfranchise.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Spelling shared details about auditioning to be in the first Scream film, which premiered in 1996, during an August 2025 episode of Scream actor Jamie Kennedy's podcast,Hate to Break It to Ya. According to Spelling, she was given a script before her audition. The script and the movie featured a scene wherein Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is discussing the unfortunate events surrounding her. While speaking of a possible movie depicting her tragic story, Sidney quips, "With my luck, they'd cast Tori Spelling [as me]." At the time of Scream's release, Spelling was best known for her role as Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 92010, which ran from 1990 to 2000.

Spelling said that despite her manager encouraging her not to, she decided to still audition.

"My whole life has been a diss, so, like, self-deprecating came at a young age to me, like, because people made fun of me like that. I looked at that and I wasn't like, 'Oh my god, that hurts.' I was like, 'Oh yeah, story of my life. That's funny. I get it. I'm there,'" said Spelling, who wasn't cast in Scream, on the podcast episode.

She also noted that Sidney was right to be concerned, as Spelling appeared as herself in Scream 2. In the 1997 film, the fictionalized version of Spelling takes on the role of Sidney for a movie called Stab, based on the gory events of the first Scream movie. According to Spelling, the film's director, the late Wes Craven, approached her to appear in the franchise's second film because of Sidney's diss.

"I think he thought I was going to be offended and, like, I would never do it. Meanwhile, I was like, I wanted to be, 'Done. I'm in, like, this is amazing,'" said Spelling to Kennedy, who played Randy Meeks in several Scream movies.

Spelling spoke about her Scream 2 cameo during a March 2025 episode of her podcast, misSPELLING, alongside Kennedy, per People. She suggested she appreciated that she is a part of such a beloved horror franchise.

"I'm such a small part of your giant franchise and I am inundated happily with Stab stuff weekly. There's posters, there's T-shirts. I was like, ‘Yes! I finally have my face on a feature on somebody's t--s,''" quipped Spelling on her podcast.

In a July 2022 interview with The Blast, Spelling said she would be interested in returning to the Scream franchise.

"Of course," said Spelling when asked if she would join the cast of future Scream movies given the chance.
