Padma Lakshmi and her 15-year-old daughter Krishna Lakshmi aren't shy about giving each other fashion advice. In a new interview with Vogue India, the mother-daughter duo played a game called Tell the Truth where they admitted to judging each other's outfits (sometimes silently).
"We go by the five-second rule. If the other person can't change in five seconds and [if the comment] is negative, don't say it. But before we leave the house, we're pretty brutal with each other," Krishna said.
Padma chimed in, saying that her daughter always seems to have the same piece of advice for her.
"She's always telling me to dress more provocatively," the Top Chef host admitted.
"And she's always telling me to dress less provocatively," Krishna replied.
In September 2022, Elle magazine rounded up some of Padma's best looks, pointing out that she's definitely got her own style that hardly ever misses the mark.
Padma undoubtedly has great style, but she tends to dress on the reserved side, despite having a fantastic body, which is likely why her daughter encourages her to show it off a bit more. Of course, there have certainly been times when Padma has pushed the envelope with her look, but that's primarily during red carpet events or other major events. Even still, she's been known to keep it classy, barely toeing the line of what her daughter calls provocative.
And Padma definitely knows how to turn it on when she needs to. In 2023, she landed her first-ever SI Swimsuit cover — and yes, she posed in a sexy bikini.
"I want everybody to see this pictorial and understand that sometimes a whole new phase that's even more exciting than anything you've ever experienced before can happen well over 40," Padma told the outlet.
Just last year, Padma linked up with Bare Necessities where she collaborated on a line of swimwear, loungewear, and lingerie.
"It means women are buying for themselves, and that's what I want. I wanted to speak directly to women, and I want the collection to be something women reach for consistently and that they love because it's useful to them. They just feel good in it, and every time they wear it, they feel comfortable. They feel at home wherever they are and really good in their own bodies," she told Pop Sugar.
