ROCHESTER, N.Y. — If you use the RTS bus service, you may see some changes starting on Labor Day, including the options you have to pay, how much you have to pay, and the late cancellation policy. RTS outlines the changes on its website. Here’s your guide:
Payment options
Starting Labor Day, riders will be able to pay for RTS on-demand services through Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and chip-enabled debit or credit cards.
Riders will still have the option to pay with cash, a $10 stored value pass, RTS Go smart cards, or RTS Go mobile on the transit app. Riders can also pay with a $1 one-ride pass, $3 all-day passes, or $56 monthly passes.
Fare increase
RTS is planning to increase its fares gradually each year for three years. Starting Labor Day, the fare will increase to $3 for adults and $1.50 for seniors, children, or disabled people. Next September, fares will increase to $4 for adults and $2 for seniors, children, or disabled people.
After that, in September of 2027, fares will increase to $5 for adults and $2.50 for seniors, children, or disabled people. Fares remain free for RTS Access customers, PCAs, and veterans with a Veterans Outreach Center pass.
No shows or late cancellations for RTS On Demand
If you use RTS On Demand and you repeatedly cancel the services late or don’t show up, your services can be suspended.
Any service infractions will be visible in a customer’s RTS On Demand account. After five no-shows or late cancellation infractions in a 30-day period, a customer’s account will be suspended for 7 dayswith notification. After 10 infractions in a 60-day period, is account is suspended for 14 days with customer notification.
RTS defines a late cancellation as when a customer provides less than three hours notice to cancel or reschedule a trip appointment.
