Noah Wyle Reveals Why His Emmy Nomination for The Pitt Feels Extra Special

Noah Wyle has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy six times throughout his career — but his latest nod is particularly meaningful.

The actor, 54, was recently nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in the HBO Max medical drama The Pitt. Wyle is also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series as he is also an executive producer on the series.

Wyle's nominations for The Pitt come 26 years after he was last nominated for ER. He was nominated in five consecutive years from 1995-1999 in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category for his role as Dr. John Carter, but never won.

During the HBO Max Nominee Celebration in Hollywood on Aug. 17, Wyle told People he was "overwhelmed" by his nominations for The Pitt.

"I'm a little different when it hits. It's hitting an older man, that's for sure," Wyle said. "And one who's been around now for 30 years and done a lot of different things and has sort of... I'm overwhelmed by this."

"I gave up hope that this was going to be something that my career was going to be part of again, that this focus would beyond my work. It's really amazing," he continued.

Wyle credits John Wells, show runner and executive producer of ER and creator of The Pitt, for guiding him throughout his decades long career.

"I go back to giving all the credit to John Wells, who's the true godfather of [ER and The Pitt] and has been the sort of mentor figure to me over two of the most rewarding creative experiences of my life," Wyle added. "Anything that I'm doing on this is to please him and to stay under his protective umbrella for as long as I possibly can."

The Pitt season 2 is currently in production in Los Angeles and is scheduled to premiere in January 2026 on HBO Max.

The 77th Emmy Awards will air live on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS.
