Kathy Garver, who starred as one of the orphaned children on the 1960s CBS sitcom Family Affair, took to Facebook on August 30 to share the sad news with her friends and fans that her husband of 44 years has died.
"I am sad to report that my beloved husband of 44 years David Travis passed away at 3:00 this morning, losing his brave battle with cancer," writes Garver alongside a host of photos showing them throughout their marriage, including several photos of them with their son, Reid Garver Travis, 34.

According to a 1994 profile in People, Garver married video executive Travis in 1981. In January 1991, they welcomed their son, Reid, who was also an actor for a short period of time. Garver told People that after Family Affair ended, her career declined a bit, and at first, she "didn't know how to handle it."
"I became reclusive and afraid," said Garver, adding, "My life seemed shallow."

But upon meeting Travis and having a baby, she found a second act as vice president of Edutainment for Kids, an educational toy company. She told People at the time that she actually came to prefer a more private life because growing up, it was all she ever wanted.
"For the longest time, all I wished for was to have a baby, to make dinner and watch TV with my family. The other night I said to David, 'You know, this is all I ever wanted in my life,'" said Garver.

She also told Parade in a 2015 interview that also "discovered the wonderful world of voice over" acting, and that has been very fulfilling later in life.
“It seems that, for some reason, the older I get, the more I do,” said Garver with a laugh.
In a 2014 interview with Parade, Garver also detailed her Family Affair Cookbook, saying, "“I like to eat. And I like to cook. And I like to make it a family affair. So every time that a food was mentioned in the series, there is an anecdote and a recipe to go along with it. And then each one of the characters has his or her own chapter."
