Today is the final Sunday without NFL football on our television screens until 2026. But, there’s still football to watch, and even some football with some Bears viewing interest, like today’s Notre Dame-Miami game.
The Bears may have settled on D’Andre Swift as their lead running back this season, but there’s a good chance they’ll be looking for an upgrade during the offseason. Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love is a projected first- or early second-rounder, and likely someone we often see linked to the Bears between now and then. Love rushed for 1,125 yards on 163 attempts (6.9) for the Fighting Irish last season, and scored 17 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 28 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Given the frequent crossover between Bears and Notre Dame fans, he’ll be a name to watch, especially if he duplicates his sophomore success in South Bend. Mandatory Credit: Matt Cashore-Imagn Images Another name to watch is Miami tackle Francis Mauigoa. Mauigoa is quickly proving why he was one of the most hyped recruits in the country when he signed with Miami. At 6’6” and 315 pounds, he’s a monster in the trenches but moves with the kind of quickness you don’t usually see from someone his size. Whether he’s stonewalling a pass rusher or driving defenders off the ball in the run game, Mauigoa looks every bit like a future first-round pick. He’s not a finished product yet—his hand placement and technique are still coming along—but the tools are undeniable. Mauigoa already looks like a Day 1 NFL starter, and with another year or two of polish, he has the upside to be one of the best tackles in the country. Miami fans should enjoy him while they can, because it won’t be long before he’s protecting a quarterback on Sundays.
