Japan Provides $5.5 Million to UN to Support Syria

Tokyo, SANA – Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a contribution of $5.5 million to support the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), which works to improve living conditions in Syria.

“With the ongoing situation in Syria and the increasing number of refugees returning home, helping people secure a safe living environment has become an urgent issue,” the ministry stated according to Japan’s Kyodo News Agency.

The ministry explained that the UN-Habitat program, signed in partnership with Japan, targeting Aleppo and Homs—two of the most severely affected areas in Syria—with the aim to rebuild essential infrastructure in impoverished and informal neighborhoods.

It’s worth noting that Japan, a leading donor to humanitarian recovery efforts in Syria, has contributed over $21 million to support UN-Habitat projects assisting vulnerable Syrian communities since 2022.
