A young child was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries after getting run over by a lawn mower on Saturday afternoon in northwest suburban Cary, authorities said.
At approximately 12:41 p.m., the Cary Fire Protection District responded to West Kristy Lane near North Hickory Nut Grove Road regarding a traumatic injury involving a child, the fire district stated. Paramedics arrived at the home and located the child, who had sustained a serious lower extremity injury after being run over by an “industrial-style” lawnmower, fire officials said.
Before emergency personnel arrived, a neighbor applied a makeshift tourniquet to help control the bleeding. The child was brought into an ambulance and taken to the Mercyhealth Hospital – Crystal Lake helipad, where he was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.
The Cary Fire Protection District provided images of fire personnel assisting the injured child.
The incident was being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
