While a new season of Survivor doesn't arrive on CBS until late September, fans all around the world are going crazy right now for an international island buffet. So far, six episodes have aired of Australian Survivor: Australia V The World, which takes seven of the best and most heralded players from the past ten seasons of the Australian version, and pits them against champions and standouts from the rest of the globe. And the level of gameplay and excitement has matched the caliber of the cast, with a series of episodes contributing to what some fans are calling the greatest season of all time.
As part of the "World" tribe, Australian Survivor brought in three living legends from the American version: Parvati Shallow, Cirie Fields, and Tony Vlachos. Making up nearly half the tribe, the three sensed they were immediately on the outs, locking in to work together. But when Parvati and Cirie formed a formidable women's alliance for the second time in their Survivor careers, it left Tony on the outside looking in again. And, according to a recent interview he did with podcaster Shannon Guss on "Rob Has a Podcast," it was palpable.

"I was scared," the two-time winner said. "I never had any interactions with Parvati outside the game. Cirie, I never had interactions with them in the game. I never played with them."
Indeed, technically speaking, Tony did play alongside the other two Americans in his last two Survivor seasons. But in Game Changers, he was voted out second, on a separate tribe from Cirie. In Winners at War, it was the opposite, where Parvati was voted out premerge, while Tony went on to make it to Day 39. Parvati did, however, watch Tony from the jury bench the entire postmerge, and was notably not one of the votes for him to win in the end.
"I know Parvati is not a fan of mine," Tony said. "From the Cagayan days, I remember Jeff Probst was doing an interview with her, 'Hey, Parvati, who do you think should win this game?' She said, 'I don't know. I like Woo. Woo's playing a great game.' And she just couldn't find herself to say, 'Tony's playing a great game.' So I know she's not a fan of mine, especially when we did Season 40. She sent the disadvantage to me. She didn't vote for me to win when I did a great game."
This dynamic came to a head in Episode 4 of Australia V The World. Facing their second Tribal Council, the women's alliance had to decide between which man to boot: Tony or Tommi Manninen. While Parvati was dead set on keeping Tony as a fellow winner shield, Cirie expressed more interest in flipping. Sensing he was cornered, Tony reached into his classic "bag of tricks," both physically and tactically. Trying to fake that he had a hidden immunity idol, he humorously wore a shoe around his neck as a bluff. But despite the humorous image, he was dead serious when he confronted Parvati and Cirie, saying they had found the key to a locked chest at camp and didn't tell him about it.
As entertaining as they may have been, Tony's antics certainly did not help his case. By the end of the occasion, he was voted out unanimously, with Parvati quipping in her voting confessional, "When you’re backed into a corner, kitty’s got claws."

When Tony claimed victory on Winners at War, cementing himself in many fans' minds as one of the greatest players of all time, he seemed hesitant to play again. In the years following his win in 2020, he retired from the police force and chose to stay out of the spotlight. So, in true Tony style, it was a sudden, yet happy shock to see him pop up on not one, but two all-star reality shows this year with The Traitors Season 3 and Australia V The World. Despite his early exits in both of them, it begs the question: Does Tony want to continue to do reality TV? And could this mean he'd want to come back to the island for time number five?
"I go wherever the money is," Tony remarked in the interview. "They call me up and they say, 'Listen, this is what the price is.' With Australia, it's funny because they said the price was 250, and I was like, 'Nah, I don't want to do that.' After the conversion to American money, it's not that much. So I was like, 'I don't know if I want to wake up in a jungle dirty again."
"But then when she told me it was the world crown," he continued, "that you could win the title of world, I was like, 'Oh, my God.' That's what made me want to go out there and do that. But, yeah, if somebody calls me wherever there's money, I go to it."
Despite that philosophy, Tony does have a different way of approaching any future shows he does, especially given his recent finishes.
"Now I know my wings are always clipped going into these games," he says. "I mean, I can't fly free like I used to. So I go into these games, I try my best to bring home as much money as I can. But at the same time, I want to give the entertainment value to the fans who love watching me. I'm never going to be a dud out there. I'm always gonna have fun."
It sounds like, for Tony Vlachos, a future on our screens, with the right price tag, is worth playing for.
