Conservationist and wildlife photographer Robert Irwin, 21, shared that his older sister, Bindi Irwin, has given him some pointers for the upcoming 34th season of the ABC competition series, Dancing With the Stars.
While speaking to TV Insider in August 2025, Robert referenced that he's followed Bindi's footsteps and decided to try his best to take home the mirror ball trophy. In 2015, Bindi, then 17, and her dance partner Derek Hough were named the winners of DWTS Season 21.
During the TV Insider interview, Robert said his sister encouraged him to put in as much effort as possible while competing on the show.
“The thing she really stressed is just be yourself and make it your own. I go into this with such pride and admiration for what Bindi did on the show, and I’m not trying in any way to match what she did," said Robert to the publication. "She is just the most incredible human being and just lit up the dance floor so, so incredibly well. She was just amazing. I just want to bring a bit of that Irwin spirit back into the ballroom.”
He clarified that while Bindi would like him to “give it 100%," she also advised him to be present in the moment.
"So that’s what I’m going to do. I want to give it my all but really try and revel in it and enjoy every second because it’s something that is a one-of-a-kind experience, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience," continued Robert.
In addition, Robert said that despite his lack of dance experience, he's been wanting to appear on DWTS for quite some time.
"It’s always been something I wanted to do. It’s always been a dream. The way it came about, it was pretty funny," said Robert during the interview. "It was a pretty quick yes from me. I really, really wanted to do this for a very long time. The stars just aligned, everything worked out perfectly, and it just feels like it’s meant to be, and now’s the time."
Robert gave fans a big update about his DWTS experience in an August 28 Instagram upload, as reported by Entertainment Now. The photos showed Robert posing in the show's practice space. In the caption of the post, Robert shared that rehearsals for Season 34 have just begun.
"IT’S HAPPENING Rehearsals have begun for Dancing With The Stars. I am equal parts excited and sore," read the caption of the post.
The 34th Season of DWTS starts airing on September 16.
