Trent Alexander-Arnold has been left out of England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.
The former Liverpool defender had been named in Thomas Tuchel’s previous squad, meaning this omission represents a blow for the now Real Madrid star.
Alexander-Arnold started Real’s first La Liga match of the season under Xabi Alonso, but after he was substituted in the 68th minute he was then named on the bench for their second league game.
In contrasting fortunes for England players new to Spain, Marcus Rashford has earned a recall following his move to Barcelona.
Rashford is on loan at Barcelona for the season and has played 66 minutes across two league matches, coming off the bench in their opener before starting against Levante – albeit then subbed off at half-time.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson meanwhile has earned his first England call-up.

Anderson had represented Scotland at youth level before switching allegiance to play for England’s U21s, and now he can stake a claim to make Thomas Tuchel’s squad for next year’s World Cup.
England are on course to qualify for the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA – they currently top Group K after winning their first three matches.
Tuchel will be without Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka for the upcoming qualifiers against Andorra at Villa Park on 6 September and away to Serbia three days later.
Bellingham has not played for Real Madrid since undergoing shoulder surgery in July, while Saka was injured during Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish is not in the squad despite an impressive start at Everton since joining on loan from Manchester City.
Tuchel had told the winger he must play regularly to earn a recall, but Grealish misses out on the German’s squad for the third time since his reign began in January.
