It’s an annual tradition for college football fans to complain about the fall weddings they have to attend. During a cabinet meeting, United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio playfully lobbied President Donald Trump to intercede.
“People getting married on Saturdays during college football season is a scourge, Mr. President. It’s dividing families,” Rubio said. “I do not know if we can have an Executive Order on this.”

— Breaking911 (@Breaking911) August 27, 2025Trump, the 45th and now 47th president, has plenty of history with football. Trump attempted to buy the then-Baltimore Colts, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots in the 1980s. Trump was also the former owner of the USFL’s New Jersey Generals before the league folded.
During his presidential terms, Trump has attended frequent college football games, including high-profile SEC matchups and the annual Army-Navy contests.
Last season, Trump attended the Iowa vs. Iowa State game and the Palmetto Bowl between Clemson and South Carolina. Trump was also on site for the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship in Atlanta, the 2019 LSU vs. Alabama Game of the Century, the 2019 Army–Navy Game in Philadelphia, the 2020 CFP National Championship in New Orleans.
While he obviously can’t control the matrimonial habits of Americans, given his rabid interest with college football, he’ll likely be seen on the screen of those sneak watching games during fall weddings.
