A large police presence was blocking streets in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood early Wednesday morning after a shooting involving police, with the Bureau of Detectives on scene as yellow police tape surrounded the area.
Photos and video captured from the scene showed multiple police cars, officers and an ambulance in the area of 59th St. and Shields, with some streets nearby blocked, including Princeton St. between 57th and 59th.
Two sources confirmed to NBC Chicago that shots were fired at and by police. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was struck by gunfire.
Officers were taken to St. Bernard Hospital nearby and treated, sources said. How many officers were being treated and their conditions wasn’t provided.
The Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for more information.
