Former Mizzou running back Cody Schrader made an impact for the Los Angeles Rams during preseason, scoring a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
However, that wasn’t enough to secure a spot for him on the Rams’ 53-man roster. He was waived by the team on Tuesday, the Rams announced.
Schrader was an undrafted free agent after 2 outstanding seasons at Mizzou. After 745 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2022, he was the SEC’s leading rusher in 2023, going for 1,627 yards and 14 touchdowns on 276 carries. He was named first-team All-SEC and an All-American while finishing 8th in Heisman Trophy voting.
He ultimately was not drafted but signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a UDFA before he was waived before the season. The Rams claimed him off waivers as he made his NFL debut to close out the regular season.
Schrader returned to the Rams ahead of the 2025 season and went through training camp, ultimately failing to make the 53-man roster. Of course, that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to find a job elsewhere: as was the case in 2024, he could be claimed by another team after clearing waivers. He could also return to the Rams as a practice squad player.
