Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry called on the Israeli authorities to take “immediate steps to prevent worsening famine” in the Gaza Strip, and allow unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid for Palestinians.
The Ministry explained in a statement Tuesday that the situation in the Gaza Strip is “rapidly deteriorating” and could threaten the lives of 132,000 children under age of five, including 41,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition. It also cautioned that the famine could extend to Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah by the end of September.
The Ministry called on Israel for an “immediate ceasefire and unhindered access to humanitarian aid” and emphasized that the ongoing siege is deepening the humanitarian disaster.
The Ministry said that UN Security Council member states are planning a new initiative to deal with the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Adding that Russia “awaits the adoption of such a document.”
