ROCHESTER, N.Y. — One of the two sisters accused of setting a fire to a home on Portland Avenue, killing a 5-year-old boy, could enter a plea on Tuesday morning.
Tikayla Hendrix is due in Monroe County Court. She and Taquida Hendrix face murder, arson, and assault charges in the fire that killed Malakai Stovall. Prosecutors say the sisters deliberately used a flammable substance to ignite the front porch of the home in July of 2024.
The fire started around 2 a.m. Malakai was home with a babysitter at the time. Rochester firefighters rescued him but he was seriously injured and later died at the hospital.
The sisters’ trial is scheduled to start on Thursday, Sept. 4.
