NETFLIX have canceled one of their popular shows after just one series – despite having a huge A-list cast.
Drama The Waterfront has been ditched by the streamer and won’t be coming back anytime soon.
The crime drama series was created by Kevin Williamson who is already understood to have told the program’s cast of its demise, reports Deadline.
When the show launched in June of this year, it became an instant ratings hit and racked up over 11 million views from its first week.
The show spent a total of five weeks in Netflix‘s global Top 10 charts upon its release.
The Waterfront featured an eclectic cast including Jake Weary, Maria Belo, Holt McCallany, and Melissa Benoist.
The decision by bosses to cancel the show will come as a surprise to fans with two other first-season dramas, which have already been renewed by Netflix chiefs, having performed significantly less than The Waterfront.
Both Ransom Canyon and 2025 drama Forever have seen second series orders despite pulling in lower viewing figures.
According to Deadline, a lack of social media buzz for The Waterfront is thought to have contributed to it’s axe.
Show creator Kevin had previously hinted at what would potentially come in a second outing before news of the cancelation was confirmed.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “[For a season two], we have the Parker family that will come into play.
“They have such a backstory with the Buckleys already.
“The Parker family would become season two’s big conflict. We’ve only met Emmett [Terry Serpico] and his father.
“There are more Parker family members and they will prove to be equally as complicated as the Buckleys — and more dangerous than Grady could ever be.”
