Susan Olsen may have come from a showbiz family, but the beloved star of The Brady Bunch got so famous that her father was willing to take desperate measures to convince her to leave the show.
In a revealing new interview with PEOPLE, Olsen, 64, who played Cindy, the pigtailed youngest daughter of the Brady clan on the hit series from 1969 to 1974, opened up about why her dad was eager for her to ditch the sitcom.

“My dad was certainly no Hollywood parent,” Olsen told the publication. “He put up a resistance for each of us kids getting involved in the business, but, you know, we all enjoyed it, so he let us do it.”
Olsen joined the sitcom, which followed a large blended family of six children, after her eighth birthday. The show soon became a runaway hit, and led to a level of fame that her father felt was out of control.
“I had situations where I got mobbed by fans. People would find out where I lived, and we'd be having dinner, and they'd be looking in the dining room window," she recalled. "My dad hated that we'd go out to eat at a restaurant and people would come up. He was really, really, really not into fame.”

Desperate to have his daughter experience normalcy and ditch the nonstop concert touring, Olsen's father attempted to convince her to quit.
“That's when he started trying to bribe me to get out of the show,” she recalled. “He thought the whole thing was too unnatural, and so, he'd tell me, ‘We'll get you a horse and riding lessons at Foxfield [Riding School]. Just quit this show.’ And I'm thinking, we can't afford a horse, let alone Foxfield. Like yeah, that'll last a year, and then I'll have no horse and no TV shows.”

Did Olsen Ever Consider Quitting 'The Brady Bunch'?
While she did consider quitting occasionally, it wasn't because of the pressure that her family put upon her. Instead, it was what happened when she went to school.
“There were times I'd go to school and I'd get teased, and I think when I get home, I'm gonna tell dad, ‘Yes, I'm quitting. I don't wanna do this show anymore.’ But by the time I'd get home, I'd always come back to my senses,” she shared. She also would miss it terribly if she couldn't participate any longer. “The thought of leaving it... I told my dad when I was about 11, 'Dad, do you think my life is unnatural now? Can you imagine if I have to watch The Brady Bunch on Friday nights and know that I'm not on it anymore? Think about how much that would mess me up.’ And he is like, ‘You’ve got a good point there.’ ”
