This week’s Hometown Heroes, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, are Kevin Belanger, Will Potter, Catherine Lazorko, and Patrice Toney.
This week we’re honoring four people who took the lead in helping our community navigate and made sure Carrboro could get back on it feet in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Chantal. Carrboro Fire Chief Will Potter organized his crew and helped to locate people not just around Carrboro but Orange County and make sure they were taken care of while understanding what his crew was going through.
After the Public Works building suffered extensive damage in the storm, Director of Public Works Kevin Bellanger found a space for the Public Works employees to continue to work and he worked with the other municipalities to make sure there were no gaps.
Catherine Lazorko, Carrboro Director of communication and engagement made sure vital and sometimes lifesaving information got out to our community. She collected resources from all areas to put them all together to let people know what was going on.
New Carrboro Town Manager, Patrice Toney was ultimately in charge of it all. She made sure there were translations services for our non-English speaking community members so they knew what was going on and how to reach out and access the resources that were available.
