Bears Make Six Cuts, Terrell Smith Goes on IR

The cuts are coming down around the NFL, so it should come as no surprise that the Chicago Bears are making moves. And while the team has work to do before getting to 53 players, Chicago’s front office began chipping away at the to-do list with a wave of transactions.

Bears Roster Cuts — August 24, 2025

This is the first wave of cuts of the Ben Johnson era as Bears head coach.

    Player cuts (placed on waivers):

LB Swayze Bozeman OL Chris Glaser TE Thomas Gordon DB Mark Perry WR Samori Toure DB Jeremiah Walker

There are no surprises among this group of cuts. We could possibly see several of these players on the practice squad. But based on the preseason production, I’m not clamoring for any of these players to re-join the Bears right now.

    Injured reserve: Cornerback Terell Smith

Terell Smith opened the summer in a position to compete for the starting cornerback spot opposite of Jaylon Johnson. Unfortunately, an injury in Preseason Week 2 took him out of action and landed him on injured reserve. Hopefully, Smith gets back in action in 2026 in what will be his fourth year with the team.
