Blumhouse has a long history of turning low budget horror films into cultural sensations. In 2023, the movie studio released The Black Phone, a supernatural horror that became a breakout hit. The film followed Finney (Mason Thames), a boy abducted by a masked serial killer known as The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) and locked away in a soundproof basement. With no way out, Finney discovered he could communicate with the killer’s previous victims through a disconnected black rotary phone that offered clues to his escape via The Grabber's previous victims.
Despite Finney's escape, The Grabber is set to return later this year in The Black Phone 2. The sequel reunites director Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill, who have promised to expand on the mythology introduced in the first film. Here's everything you need to know.

The Black Phone 2 will follow Finney (Mason Thames), now 17, as he struggles to rebuild his life after surviving his kidnapping. Meanwhile, his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), now 15, begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and experiences terrifying visions of three boys being stalked at a remote winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Determined to solve the mystery and free both herself and her brother from its torment, Gwen persuades Finney to join her on a dangerous journey to the camp during a raging storm. What they uncover is a chilling connection between The Grabber and their own family’s past, forcing them to confront a killer who has grown even more powerful in death than he was in life. Black Phone was based on a short story of the same name by Joe Hill (son of legendary horror writer Stephen King). The idea for the sequel was pitched by Hill and that the inspiration for a second film came from The Grabber's mask.
