He hates to be the bearer of bad news... but he's so good at it! Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath received the "craziest" Cameo request in August 2025, and the "diabolical" video he delivered sent fans reeling.
"Your brother Jim reached out to be with a bit of news that's going to be challenging for you, Kevin," the "Fly" singer said in the video, visibly uncomfortable. "Sugar Ray and Uncle Kracker played a show on April 3rd at the Clay County Fair, and I believe love was in the air... and some alcohol, and some bad mistakes."
"I don't think there's anything family can't get through, especially brothers," he continued, building up to the devastating news he was asked to share. "Enough dancing around the issue: Jim had relations with your wife, and apparently the baby your wife's carrying, Kevin, is Jim's," he announced with a deep sigh.

"He feels terrible, and he says that I'm his only shot at surviving this," said McGrath. "If a guy who has frosted tips and is basically a washed-up '90s saloon singer is Jim's only chance at surviving this... Jim, you got no chance."
While McGrath clearly took the assignment very seriously, it turns out that the Cameo was requested as a joke by influencer and comedian Jimmy Clifford, who shared the video on Instagram. "Sometimes when I'm bored, I buy Cameos and I just write the craziest prompt that I can think of," he admitted.
Though Clifford's situation was fake, fans' responses to McGrath's video were very real. "I feel like you owe Sugar Ray an apology cause this is so stressful for him," said one fan. "You can tell he feels terrible." Another was impressed by his tact, saying, "honestly, he did a great job considering the assignment," while a third agreed, "He nailed that delivery, I can’t even lie. So well articulated with sensitivity, humor, and wit."
A fourth couldn't help but feel a little bad for McGrath, writing, "You can tell he feels somewhat responsible since HE made it a magical night at the Uncle Kracker/Sugar Ray show April 3rd at the Clay County Fair."

In his video, McGrath admitted that he has a "reputation [on Cameo] for letting people know about crushing news, especially when it comes to affairs of the heart." That reputation was earned back in 2019, when his Cameo helping a woman break up with her long-distance boyfriend went viral.
“Cheyenne is trying to let you know, Brayden, it’s very, very tough for her to stay in this relationship,” he said in the infamous clip, delivered with the same care as his most recent video. “She still cares about you a lot. You never know what the future may hold, and she still wants to be friends with you.”
