Unseasonably cool temperatures will arrive this weekend, giving Chicagoans a sample of fall weather before the season even begins.
But those conditions won’t set in right away.
The region will experience some humidity as the day begins Saturday, with high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s and dew point values in the low to mid 60s.
Humidity typically becomes noticeable whenever dew point values surpass 60 degrees, NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Iisha Scott said.
Conditions will change relatively quickly, with readings dropping below 60 degrees on Sunday, ushering in more comfortable weather. Dew points will decrease to 50 degrees by Monday and drop into the high 40s by the middle part of next week, making it even more pleasant outdoors.
Despite rain in parts of DeKalb and LaSalle counties early Saturday, the day as a whole will be mostly dry as clouds turn into sunshine.
In the afternoon, temperatures will climb back into the 80s, although there could be spotty thunderstorms, mainly across parts of northwest Indiana, Scott said.
Most folks will get through the day completely dry, however.
Mainly clear skies will arrive overnight, leading to chilly conditions as Sunday kicks off.
Then we’ll see a fairly significant temperature drop of around 10 degrees.
Readings will start in the mid to upper 50s, meteorologists said. But by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around, temperatures will climb only into the mid 70s as the result of persistent northwesterly winds.
Overall conditions will be pleasant, with highs in the low to mid 70s.
As the work week begins, values will drop slightly, with highs expected around 70 on Monday. Overnight lows are expected in the mid 50s, though values in the low 50s are possible further away from the city.
High temperatures will slightly rise on Tuesday before a steady climb back to near 80 degrees as the end of the week arrives. After that comes Labor Day weekend which, as of Saturday, was looking mainly dry with temperatures in the upper 70s, Scott said.
