Raise a glass—and maybe a crab claw—The Living Coast Discovery Center made waves at its 16th annual Farm to Bay fundraiser on Aug. 2, bringing in a record-breaking $175,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, auction proceeds, and Raise the Paddle donations.

Farm to Bay, a 21+ tasting event held on San Diego Bay, is the Living Coast’s largest and most important annual fundraiser. The event supports the Center’s mission to inspire the community to connect with and care for the coastal environment. Funds raised benefit coastal wildlife conservation, education, and sustainability programs throughout the year.

“We are deeply grateful for the community’s support of Farm to Bay, which sustains our mission,” said Executive Director Ben Vallejos. “At a time when so much at the national level feels beyond our control, it’s inspiring to see our guests, sponsors, and partners step up to ensure our animals, staff, and programs have the resources they need to thrive.”

A hallmark of Farm to Bay is its commitment to Zero Waste. Partners use compostable or reusable serving materials, while a team led by graduates of the Living Coast’s Master Composter Training Course manages waste produced during the event. This year, 92 percent of waste was recycled or composted, surpassing the 90 percent threshold required to maintain Zero Waste status.

Farm to Bay 2025 was made possible by Presenting Sponsors Collins Aerospace and Seven Mile Casino. Additional sponsors include Channelside Water Resources, Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center, Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, City of Chula Vista Office of Sustainability, Mission Fed Credit Union, Jim Biddle, Blackbeard Marine Services, Cota Vera, Cox Communications, General Dynamics/NASSCO, Marine Group Boat Works, Port of San Diego, Republic Services, Baldwin & Sons, Delphinus Engineering, Hoffman Hanono Insurance Services, RJS Law, and San Diego Foundation. In-kind support was provided by Edible San Diego Magazine.

The Living Coast Discovery Center is a 501(c)(3) educational zoo and aquarium located within the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
