Long before he'd ever set foot on a film set, Guillermo del Toro was a child dreaming about making a film adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel, Frankenstein. All these years later, his dream is realized, and Frankenstein is finally headed to theaters.

Though it may have taken him several decades, the Academy Award-winning director got the chance to make the movie that started his love of film.

    "It took 30 years. It’s a movie I wanted to make before I even had a camera. There’s the DNA of Frankenstein on Chronos, on Blade Two, on Hellboy," he told Variety in 2025. "I pitched it everywhere. It’s been my Mount Everest to climb."

    The new movie, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz is one of the most highly anticipated of the Halloween season. But, Frankenstein will only have a three-week cinematic run after it premieres at the Venice Film Festival on August 30.
