Top Chefs Break Down What It Really Takes to Beat Bobby Flay

Celebrity Chefs Tiffani Faison and Andrew Zimmern have revealed the secrets to beating Bobby Flay on his own show.

In an Instagram Q&A direct from the set of Beat Bobby Flay, the man himself took questions directly from his fans, which is something he does quite often — but this time, he also interviewed the two chefs who were there to mess with him and try to pick the winning chef who would beat him in the second round.

The two all-star chefs were none other than Zimmern and Faison. Zimmern is renowned for his Travel Channel series Bizarre Foods, for which he has won four James Beard Awards, and also his MSNBC show What's Eating America. Faison is a Top Chef runner-up, a frequent judge on Chopped and the winner of Tournament of Champions season three.

When asked about the secrets to beating Flay on his eponymous Food Network show, they had this to say:

"Steel nerves, a lot of confidence, and you have to leave it all on the plate," said Zimmern.

But Faison was much more dialed in, as she said, "Bake, bake, bake. That's how you beat Bobby."

She's not wrong — baking is a known weak spot for Flay. In fact, one of the fan questions during the Q&A was, "Has Beat Bobby Flay improved your baking skills at all?", to which Flay replied, "Definitely… I went from an awful baker to a mediocre one!"

Another fun question a fan asked Flay was what is an ingredient he wishes he could use more often in BBF?", to which he replied, "I love gochujang. It's a fermented Korean red pepper paste. It makes everything taste good."

He was also asked about an underrated kitchen utensil, and Flay replied, "Zester. A quick way to get intense citrus flavor into a dish."
