Matlock star Jason Ritter revealed that he would love to see his character, Julian, appear on fellow CBS show Tracker.
“If Tracker ever wants a partner [for Justin Hartley’s character, Colter], maybe Julian leaves the firm and he starts a new life,” Ritter, 45, jokingly told Us Weekly in an interview published on Thursday, August 21. “Just two rugged guys.”
Ritter made his debut on the CBS legal drama during the season 1 premiere in 2024. Julian is a senior partner at Jacobson Moore, who was also navigating a divorce from Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) in the early episodes.

While fans will get to see more of Julian in season 2, he revealed that viewers will see a new side to him in future episodes.
“Julian was in the middle of a divorce, but he was going through his life with his skeletons safely in his closet. Now, with the affair coming out — and then with the other big reveal coming out — he’s in a new boat,” he shared. “There is no pretending with [his ex-wife] Olympia anymore. Or compartmentalizing and putting [things] away in a dark and shameful drawer.”
Ritter added that Julian will have to address his past mistakes when Matlock returns on October 12. “Julian is going to have to grapple — one way or another — with this. It’s such a shameful thing that he has just put it away, tried to be a good dad and focused on his family,” he explained. “Now, he is grappling with the ramifications of what he did. Also he’s terrified.”
He shared that season 2 is "very, very fun and exciting." Ritter continued, “The first season, I basically sat back and watched and loved the process. I trusted [creator] Jennie [Snyder Urman] and the writers. That’s how I feel this season, too. They have a plan and I don’t want to mess it up with my ideas.”
He also expressed excitement over being challenged as an actor in the new season.
“They have already taken it in some different directions,” he said. “I’ve gotten to show other sides [to Julian] and it’s been a lot of fun so far. We’re only at the beginning, so I can’t wait to see what they have in store for me later.”
