Projecting the Future: Where Will the Blackhawks Be in Five Years?

We had a couple massively contrasting sets of opinions come out yesterday regarding the current state of the Chicago Blackhawks. Well… the current state and the future. I shared the results (and some reaction) to the fan survey from The Athletic grading confidence in the Blackhawks’ front office and rebuild. That did not go as well for the Hawks.

But then I read a lovely piece from Paul Pidutti (aka Adjusted Hockey) at Daily Faceoff, which was on the complete opposite end of the Blackhawks encouragement pendulum. He’s been projecting out five years, and yesterday he provided analysis on which teams will be contenders in 2030.

I love his methodology because it incorporates players under control, pipeline strength, future draft capital and player aging curves (among a list of other things).

Here are his projected standings in 2030:

Yes, Pidutti — using all of those criteria to project out five years — has the Blackhawks in his “Contender” category. And among the top five teams in the entire league. Here’s what he wrote about the Blackhawks:

Chicago is a little further along its long and winding road to competitiveness than San Jose. GM Kyle Davidson has amassed picks and has continuously layered future NHL talent. Here’s the potential Hawks’ depth chart with their respective ages in June 2030: forwards Connor Bedard (25), Frank Nazar (26), Anton Frondell (23), Oliver Moore (25), Sacha Bosivert (24), and Nick Lardis (24); defensemen Sam Rinzel (26); Artyom Levshunov (24); Alex Vlasic (29); and Kevin Korchinski (26). Another elite player inore confidence in the “vision” of the Blackhawks than fans gave them credit in the survey at The Athletic? the much-anticipated 2026 draft will add a weapon. Ongoing development and veteran reinforcements will be necessary to elevate this youth movement, but Chicago is well-positioned for 2030 and beyond.

So maybe there is reason to have a little more confidence in the “vision” of the Blackhawks than fans gave them credit in the survey at The Athletic?

? It’s the Year 2030…Florida & Edmonton are old news. Current rebuilds are complete. Which team will lift the 2030 Stanley Cup?…? PART TWO of my @DailyFaceoff series: Counting down the #NHL franchises five years from now — from #32 to #1.?: t.co/j772TXQP6W
