At first blush, I’m digging the overall aesthetic. I’m a fan of the block numbers. And the orange pants are pretty nifty. This feels like an homage (of sorts) to George Halas’ Illinois Fighting Illini background. I hope the team shares more about what went into these design decisions at some point in the future. There probably is a backstory here that needs to be told.
I know there are some who were fearing the worst. And while I can only speak for myself, I think Nike avoided the worst-case scenario playing out with these jerseys. As someone who follows the pro sports jersey releases around town and throughout the sports world, I know that there have been some uninspiring looks to drop. So while this isn’t the best that Nike could have done, it certainly isn’t the company’s worst showing.

In the end, the only thing that fills me with disappointment is that we aren’t getting the Polar Bear look that we’ve always wanted. Bears fans have been banging the table for a white-on-white look that is clean, pops off the screen, and makes us want to go buy our favorite player’s jersey. I don’t know if this look makes me want to go get it right now. But I don’t hate it. And I can’t wait to see it on the field when the Bears and Packers play on Christmas Day.
