We are getting ready to start the day 2 prelims session of the 2025 World Junior Championships, and among the seven events this morning were a few high profile scratches.
Lithuania’s Tajus Juska was entered in a double this morning as the 2nd seed in the boys 100 fly and the 6th seed in the boys 200 freestyle. He has scratched out of the 200 freestyle, where his 1:48.16 from April came in just ahead of France’s Neo Dutriaux, who was seeded in 1:48.59.
Only the girls 200 butterfly would have come in between his swims, so it seems he scratched to focus on the event he is the higher seed in.
The 2nd event of the prelims, the girls 100 freestyle saw 8th seed Jana Pavalic, from Croatia, scratch out of the event. Pavalic, who is committed to swim at the University of Virginia in 2026, was seeded in 55.03, just three hundredths ahead of Kira Manokhina from the NAB delegation.
She is still entered in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly events, where she is the 3rd and 6th seeds respectively, later this meet.
Finally, 17th seed in the boys 200 freestyle Great Britain’s Gabriel Shepherd scratched out of the prelims after swimming the prelims and finals of the 4×100 freestyle relay yesterday, splitting 49.38 in the final.
The 100 freestyle is his only other individual event, and he will be seeded 4th overall.
