Hundreds of flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport on Monday were delayed amid afternoon thunderstorms.
As of 2:45 p.m. Monday, a ground delay was in effect at DIA, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The ground delay is scheduled through at least 8 p.m. Monday, with the longest delays expected after 4 p.m., FAA officials said. Flights were being delayed by an average of 54 minutes at 2:45 p.m.
At that time, 317 flights had been delayed at DIA and 17 had been canceled, according to flight tracking data from FlightAware.
Southwest delayed 147 flights on Monday, followed by 78 from United, 48 from SkyWest, 15 from Frontier and 14 from American Airlines. Ten additional airlines delayed between one and five flights.
Air Canada canceled 12 flights at DIA on Monday, 100% of its Denver schedule. It’s unclear if those cancellations are linked to the thunderstorms or the ongoing flight attendant strikes.
